Ask ‘Valentine’s Day’ Stars Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx a Question

2010

Helmed by ‘Pretty Woman’ director Garry Marshall, ‘Valentine’s Day’ (in theaters Feb. 12) boasts a cast so large, saying it has “starpower” is an understatement. Featuring Jessica Biel, Jamie Foxx, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, and more (many more), ‘V-Day’ follows multiple characters who make and break relationships leading up to the most hated/loved made-up holiday of the year.

In the film, Jessica Biel plays Kara Monahan, a successful young publicist who has everything she wants, except the perfect date for Valentine’s Day. And it’s only after losing all hope that Kara finds herself unexpectedly falling for suave sports reporter Kelvin Briggs, played by Jamie Foxx.

This Friday, Jan. 29, Biel and Foxx will be stopping by Moviefone for an Unscripted interview using your questions. Maybe you’re wondering what it was like working with such a large cast. Or, if Jamie Foxx provided exclusive performances for his costars while shooting. Whatever your question may be, just make sure to submit it before Thursday, Jan. 28 in the comments section  and to include your name and the city you live in.

Come back HERE on Monday, Feb. 8, to see if your question made the cut!

Whether filming an action movie or skiing in the Rockies, Jessica Biel knows how to keep her cool. Jonathan Van Meter discovers why she’ll never kiss and tell.

You can learn all sorts of interesting things about a person on a road trip together. For example: Jessica Biel is a very good driver. She is behind the wheel of a Subaru heading north from Vancouver toward Whistler, one of the ski resorts hosting the Olympics this month. Because of record-breaking snow, Biel has decided to ditch the more traditional plans she’d made for our interview and hit the slopes instead. So here we are, side by side, snacking on trail mix and listening to the sound track to Where the Wild Things Are. In the car in front of us is Biel’s assistant and best friend, Lindsay Ratowsky, who is being driven with all of our bags and equipment. Our mini caravan left Vancouver in the late afternoon in a downpour, and now we are driving in the dark in a snowstorm. Wearing jeans and hiking boots, Biel, who grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and has been snowboarding since she was a kid, is utterly in her element. “This is very much a me moment: in the snow, in the Subaru, listening to music,” she says. “I feel really at peace in this environment.”

It’s a far cry from where we were two hours ago, when Biel had 40 pounds of ammo strapped around her waist and an M4 semiautomatic assault rifle hoisted above her right shoulder. We were on the outskirts of Vancouver in an empty warehouse the size of a Walmart, part of the soundstage where she has been filming The A-Team. Paul, a dashing fellow with a British accent whom Biel describes as the “resident badass,” was teaching her the finer points of racking and reloading. After Biel squeezed off several deafening rounds, Paul calculated the number of mistakes she made and then said, “Twenty-four!” She dropped to the floor and gave him two dozen push-ups. It was only then that I noticed that she is as thin as a teenage boy and all muscle. Her usual Jessica Rabbit curves have all but disappeared, the red-carpet Sex Bomb nowhere to be found.

Who is Jessica Biel? Let’s admit it: She is a bit of a cipher. The girls who read the tabloids think of her as Justin Timberlake’s on-again, off-again girlfriend; my aunt Nancy thinks of her as little Mary Camden from the mid-nineties WB series 7th Heaven; and most men under 40 think of her as the smokin’ hottie who let Adam Sandler massage her breasts in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. I think it is fair to say that Jessica Biel has not yet experienced a unifying cultural moment. In other words: She can still ride the subway, which, in fact, she tells me she just did the other day. “I talked to a girl who liked my shoes,” she says. ” ‘Oh, those are cute. Where’d you get those?’ ‘I got them at Barneys.’ ‘Are you from New York?’ ‘No, I’m from out of town.‘ ‘Oh, cool. Nice to talk to you.’ ‘Nice to talk to you!’ “

My own expectations were equally off-base; I imagined her as a sort of modern-day Raquel Welch. I thought she would purr. But that notion was shattered the instant I met her. It does not take long to figure out that Jessica Biel is a mellow creature, a young woman who appears to be completely at ease with herself and who meets the world on her own terms. I spent nearly two full days with her, and not once did I see her tense up. This is at least partly due to how she was raised. She describes her parents as hippies. “They are major outdoor people,” she says. “They rafted the Grand Canyon when they were in their 20s. They are an incredible couple.” 01m

Her father, Jon, worked for GE for many years and ran his own business consultancy in Boulder. “He is extremely motivated and ambitious,” she says. “I get those qualities from him.” Her mother, Kim, grew up one of six kids in a small town a few hours southwest of Denver where Jessica and her parents both own cabins on adjoining properties. Her mother’s side of the family is part Native American: Those crazy-high cheekbones are shared by her younger brother, mother, and grandmother. When she tells me that her parents dehydrate their own food, culture their own vegetables, and make their own coconut kefir, I can’t help laughing. “I actually do, too!” she says.

Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch Reach Mt. Kilimanjaro’s Summit

Jan

2010

Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas reached the summit of 19,340 –foot Mt. Kilimanjaro Tuesday, the sixth day of their trek up Africa’s tallest peak, in their quest to raise awareness of the global water crisis.

After enduring torrential rain and a blizzard earlier in the trek, the star-studded group of entertainers and activists started their final ascent of the Tanzanian mountain at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. They climbed for seven hours, then finally reached Uhuru Peak, where they posed for a photograph holding a sign that read “SEND WATER.”

With single-digit temperatures at the summit, the climbers were expected to remain at the top for no more than 45 minutes. They had planned to give a special shout-out to the father of Ethiopian-born musician Kenna, who organized the climb. Kenna’s father lost several family members due to waterborne illnesses.

“The last 48 hours have been the most intense and physically grueling experience of my life. Miraculously, we all made it to the top together,” says Hirsch. “To have such a complete success for such a worthwhile cause – the global clean water crisis – more than reaching the summit is what is really satisfying.”

Adds rapper Lupe Fiasco: “The thrill of conquering your fears, especially in such a physically and mentally taxing environment, can’t really be done justice in words.”

Joining them on the climb are UN Foundation executive Elizabeth Gore; Alexandria Cousteau, granddaughter of ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau; photographer Michael Muller, and Kick Kennedy, environmentalist and granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy.

PUR Water Filtration and P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program

Jan

2010

After months of training and preparation, today the SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro climbers will begin their highly-anticipated ascent of Africa’s tallest (19,340-ft) mountain – Mt. Kilimanjaro. The reason? To raise awareness about the need for clean drinking water, as well as funds for clean water programs in the developing world.

The climbers have spent the last few days visiting a village near Arusha, Tanzania where they saw, firsthand, the toll the global water crisis is taking on communities around the world, as well as the relief efforts being used to help. One clean water solution is the PUR sachet, which was developed by Procter & Gamble’s (NYSE: PG) PUR Water Filtration. Since 2004, PUR and the CSDW program have worked together to prevent water-related diseases around the globe with the PUR sachet, which is a tiny packet of powder that can transform potentially deadly water into clean, drinkable water within 30 minutes.

See the PUR sachet at work here.

“I went on this climb with the intention to bring awareness to the clean drinking water crisis,” said Jessica Biel. “Meeting the people and community in Tanzania, and seeing firsthand how just one PUR sachet can mean the difference between healthy water and contaminant laden water for an entire village, has been an invaluable and eye-opening experience for me. My hope is that others will be inspired to find ways that they can help; starting simply in their homes and continuing to other parts of the world. We are all in this together.”

The climb – which will benefit PUR Water Filtration’s partner, the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW), among other clean water efforts – was created by Grammy-nominated musician, Kenna, whose father nearly lost his life as a child after contracting a water-borne disease from drinking contaminated water.

    Who’s Climbing?

  • Kenna – Grammy-nominated musician and creator of SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro
  • Jessica Biel – Actor (upcoming films Valentine’s Day and The A-Team)
  • Emile Hirsch – Actor (Into the Wild, Milk)
  • Isabel Lucas – Actor (Transformers 2)
  • Lupe Fiasco – Grammy-nominated musician
  • Dr. Greg Allgood – Director of the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program at Procter & Gamble
  • Alexandra Cousteau – National Geographic Emerging Explorer
  • Kick Kennedy – Environmental activist and granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy
  • Elizabeth Gore – Executive Director of Global Alliances for the United Nations Foundation
  • Jason Walsh – Renowned Trainer and Movement Specialist

Dr. Greg Allgood personally took the climbers on their Village Visit near Arusha, Tanzania. He frequently makes trips to Africa with the CSDW Program and recently traveled to Arusha in October 2009. However, this is the first time he’s brought such a diverse group to see the work he does around the world.

“It was amazing seeing the reaction my fellow climbers had during their eye-opening visit to the village,” Dr. Greg Allgood said. “There are 4,000 children who die every day from diseases caused by unsafe drinking water, a statistic that PUR and the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program have been working tirelessly to help address.”

Why Climb for Clean Drinking Water?

  • There are over one billion people in the developing world who don’t have access to clean drinking water.
  • With no running water, many families have no choice but to drink from rivers and streams contaminated with bacteria, parasites and viruses, which contribute to a prevalence of diarrhea-related illnesses that cause widespread death.

    Join The Cause

  • A portion of the proceeds from the climb will go to benefit the CSDW Program. Anyone in the U.S. can join the climb and the clean drinking water cause by purchasing a PUR water pitcher or faucet mount filtration system. One purchase of a PUR system will donate a week’s worth of clean drinking water to children in need in the developing world.1
  • Donations from purchases of PUR water pitchers and faucet mounts will go towards the CSDW Program’s goal of providing more than 4 billion liters of clean drinking water in the developing world from 2007-2012, helping to preventing an estimated 160 million days of diarrheal illness and saving an estimated 20,000 lives. To date, the CSDW program has delivered over 1.8 billion liters of clean drinking water to those in need.

THE A-TEAM Trailer Description

Jan
04
2010

The first trailer for Joe Carnahan’s THE A-TEAM film backed by 20th Century Fox has been viewed.

The film will not grace the screen until June 10, 2010, but a movie projectionist has allegedly seen the first trailer and has sent in his write up to AICN.

Based on the popular ’80’s action television series of the same name, THE A-TEAM stars Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Face, Quinton Jackson as B.A. Baracus, Sharlto Copley as Murdock along with Jessica Biel.

The jist of the 1 minute of 41 second trailer is below, head over to AICN for the complete description,

We see Hannibal in his colonel uniform attending a military funeral. Next we get quick shots of the team breaking out of a prison bus and then Hannibal meeting with Face on a beach. Some footage of fast cars and a shot of B.A. getting out of one. It’s filmed from the rear, so we can get a good look at the mohawk! That just leaves Murdock, who’s introduced in his familiar jacket/cap getup, complete with pilot’s headset.

From there it’s all high action mixed with nostalgia, sure to leave fans of the show with a “plot-hatching Hannibal” sized grin. Everyone involved gets to break out a well known piece of of their character. Hannibal gets to chomp a stogie and proclaim “I love it when a plan comes together”. B.A. gets to act hella-tough and lament on how much he missed his van. Which of course gets a big a reveal as any of the characters. Which is only fair, there are few vehicles more iconic than that GMC van. Face, full of his trademark charisma, questions the sanity of Hannibal’s plan, tells B.A. that he has a bad attitude and makes out with Jessica Biel’s Lt. Sosa character. And Murdock, who get’s the least amount of screen time, still finds time to show us how off kilter he is by calmly announcing that their planes wing is on fire.

After the escape and the character revealing we get around 30 seconds of the team on their mission which is all ziplines and gunfire and helicopters. It ends with the bullet riddled A Team logo and the tagline “There is no plan B”.
