One of the Pocono Mountains Film Festival’s biggest lineups of guests is set to be at this year’s event.
Sought-after movie stars Jessica Biel ( “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,” the TV show “7th Heaven”) and John Leguizamo (“Summer of Sam,” the “Ice Age” movies) will headline the guests scheduled to appear at the festival this month.
PMFF executive director and founder Bridget O. Davis confirmed the appearances last week for the festival, which runs Oct. 22-25.
Both celebrities will be on hand to accept festival awards. Biel and her father, Jon, will receive the festival’s Humanitarian Award for starting the charity Make The Difference Network mtdn.com), a social network dedicated to helping non-profit organizations raise money.
Leguizamo will accept the festival’s first Latin Lifetime Career Achievement Award for his contributions to film as a Latino.
It’s the biggest list of festival guests since the first festival brought in Hazleton-area Oscar winner Jack Palance and Billy Dee Williams.
“We’re really excited,” Davis said about the guests. “On top of that, we’re getting some great films.”
And a lot of them. Davis said the seventh annual festival already has received about 170 submissions, a new high. There is still more than a week to submit an entry into the festival.
The entries cross every genre and category — including X-rated.
“But we don’t accept those,” she said, adding there were about 15 pornographic submissions. “We’re a family event. We try to keep it that way.”
There have been so many submissions, it’s the first time the festival has turned anyone down.
“But we didn’t have to turn down anyone local,” Davis said. “It would have broke my heart if we did.”
The festival’s movies are being screened Oct. 22-25 at Pocono Community Theater in East Stroudsburg. Davis said about 30 movies a day will be screened, as the festival will be using all three of the theater’s screens.
The count also includes short films, which are part of the festival.
Other than the screenings, there are parties and banquets.
Biel and Leguizamo will accept their honors at the festival’s awards banquet Oct. 24 at Peppe’s Ristorante in East Stroudsburg.
Other guests include “Cocoon” writer David Saperstein and celebrity journalist Flo Anthony.
There will also be workshops during the festival.
Tickets for the festival events, including movie screenings and dinners, can be purchased at poconomountainsfilmfestival.net or by calling the festival’s office at 570) 619-4101 or 570) 620-1212.
